Laurel True
New Orleans based artist Laurel True has spent much of her life traveling and teaching around the world. Her work explores the intersection of public and personal perception through creative placemaking and community-based street art. True uses mirror, ceramic, glass and salvaged materials to create architectural installations, mosaic murals and sculptural forms for commercial, community and public spaces. The co-founder of the Institute of Mosaic Art in Oakland, California she has fostered education in the mosaic arts through teaching and speaking around the world. She is Founding Director of The Global Mosaic Project, which provides art education and entrepreneurial training to underserved communities in urban and developing areas through socially engaged art with 200 projects globally that contribute to environmental beautification, economic and community development, well-being and social justice.
